What to have ready
- Where you are, and whether anyone is in immediate danger
- What has happened — locked out, broken in, lock failed, key snapped
- The door type, or for a vehicle the year, make and model
- For a car key or a lockout, proof of ownership and photo ID
That last one is not bureaucracy. Making a key to a vehicle, or opening a door, is exactly the capability someone would misuse — a locksmith who does not check is a problem for you as much as for anyone else.
