What should I do right now?
Go through this list in order. It takes about two minutes, and now and then it saves you the call.
- A child or a pet is inside, or you feel unsafe: call 911 first. Do not wait for a locksmith.
- Try every door and the trunk or hatch before you call anyone.
- Think about a spare key — at home, with a partner or roommate, at work. Somebody bringing it over can be the simplest fix.
- If your vehicle has a manufacturer app with remote unlock, and you set it up before today, try it.
- If the engine is running, stay with the vehicle and mention it when you call.
- Leave the coat hanger alone. Side airbags and wiring run inside the door, and a slipped tool can damage both.

Who should I call — roadside assistance, a locksmith or the dealer?
If you have a roadside plan — through CAA, your car insurer, a credit card or the vehicle manufacturer — check it first. CAA roadside assistance includes lockout service, overnight as well; for any other plan, call the number on the card or in the app and ask whether a lockout is covered.
A mobile locksmith comes to the vehicle and opens it where it is parked. That is the job we do, and it is the direct route when you have no plan or the plan cannot reach you soon enough.
A dealership makes sense when you need a new key and the vehicle is already with them. With the keys locked inside, the vehicle would have to be towed there first.
If the key is lost rather than locked inside, it is a different job: a new key has to be cut and programmed to the vehicle. We do that on site as well — say which situation you are in when you call.
What are your hours, and what if it is after 11 PM?
Falcon Locksmith is open 7 days a week, from 8 AM to 11 PM. We are not a 24-hour locksmith.
After 11 PM, if you are unsafe or a child or a pet is in the vehicle, call 911. If you are safe, use your roadside plan if you have one, or get a ride home and come back to the car in the morning.
If the car cannot stay where it is overnight, you need a locksmith that is really open at that hour. Ask for a price estimate before they send anyone, and write it down.

How much does it cost, and when do I find out?
We give you a price estimate on the phone. When the final price can only be set on site, the technician tells you the price before starting any work.
The estimate depends on the vehicle and on where you are in the GTA — some models take longer to open. Give us the year, make and model and your location, and the estimate will be closer.
Where in Toronto and the GTA do you come?
All of Toronto — downtown, North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke — and the rest of the Greater Toronto Area: York, Peel, Halton and Durham regions.
We come to where the car is: street parking, a driveway, a plaza or grocery store lot, a workplace lot, or an underground garage. For a condo or underground garage, tell us the level and how a visitor gets in. For a street or a large lot, the nearest cross street or store entrance is enough to find you.
What should I have ready when I call?
A few details up front mean the technician arrives with the right tools for your vehicle.
- Where the car is: the address, the cross streets, or the lot and level
- Year, make and model
- Where the keys are: in the cabin, in the trunk, or in the ignition
- Whether anybody is inside the vehicle
- Photo ID, and the ownership or registration if you have it with you. If the papers are locked inside, tell us when you call
- A phone number that will stay switched on
